
CLICKS has been recently involved in delivering a three day “in-house” capacity building program for INCEIF on Excellence in Online Learning and Teaching. The program which was designed particularly to address the needs of faculty and teaching staff at INCEIF aimed at exposing participants to the latest developments and trends and key principles of online learning and teaching including discussing various technologies available nowadays, understanding the new role of faculty and learners in an online learning environment and the how this differs from the traditional ‘face to face’ teaching; principles of instructional design including a detailed coverage of online course planning and design were also covered. The program furthermore covered various strategies and best practices related to assessment in online learning, feedback provision techniques and how plagiarism could be overcome in online learning.
It is worth to mention that INCEIF was set up in 2005 by Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia) as one of the many initiatives undertaken by Malaysia to develop and nurture talents and experts under the MIFC (Malaysia International Islamic Finance Centre). INCEIF currently offers three postgraduate programs in Islamic finance, namely Masters in Islamic Finance Practice (MIFP), Master of Science in Islamic Finance (MSc) and PhD in Islamic Finance; in addition it offers industry-focused executive education that includes customized executive programs. Recently the institution engaged in delivering online learning to widen its access and provide flexibility to learning. As such the institution through its e-Learning Unit aims at continuously developing and enhancing its faculty skills and competencies for teaching online.
The “Excellence in Online Learning and Teaching” program took place at the Sime Darby Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from the 18th to the 20th of August was attended by 25 faculty and teaching staff members as well as representatives from the e-learning unit.
Mrs. Fathaiya Jamaludin, e-Learning Unit Manager at INCEIF said “The workshop was excellent ! The knowledge and information that were disseminated to the participants are valuable and useful for enhancing e-learning at INCEIF “
Dr. Narimane Hadj-Hamou who led the program on the other hand said that “I have truly enjoyed delivering the workshop at INCEIF, there is a lot of potential for the institution and for the use of e-learning to widen access to studies in a very unique discipline. We look forward to seeing the outcome of this program on improving learning and teaching”
