
The Center for Learning Innovations and Customized Knowledge Solutions (CLICKS) is pleased to announce it will be offering during the next three months three public programs in Muscat in an attempt to support the ongoing growth and development of higher education in Oman and to help build capacity and address universities and colleges’ needs. The three programs will be tailored and contextualized to meet the particularities of universities and colleges in the country and will align standards and requirements of OAAA and other regulatory bodies.
The first capacity building program is planned to take place from the 22nd to the 24th of March, 2016 in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin and is catered mainly towards faculty members and teaching staff as well as those in charge of overseeing the quality of teaching and learning. The program titled as “Innovative Methods for Student-Centered Teaching “ will cover a broad range of topics including looking at student and faculty new role in the 21st Century learning and teaching, considering how technology is reshaping T&L, curriculum design, student assessment and feedback among many other topics.
The second and third programs will be hosted at the Scientific College of Design in Oman. The “Strategic Planning in Higher Education” ‘hands-on’ three day program delivered by Professor Dolina Dowling, an international higher education expert and the former Executive Director of the Directorate of Higher Education Reviews of the National Authority for Qualifications and Quality Assurance of Education and Training (QQA) in The Kingdom of Bahrain will consider strategic planning within the context of higher education; it will look closely at how universities can formulate strategies and strategic plans which are operationalized and cascaded in an efficient and effective manner. It will also discuss a number of strategic planning tools and techniques with special emphasis placed on Balanced scorecard as a tool for translating your institution’s/ School or Department mission into measurable objectives and KPIs. This particular program is not only addressed at Directors and staff working in quality assurance and strategic planning offices but at all those involved with planning within their respective schools/ faculties or departments. The Strategic Planning program will run from the 4th to the 6th of April, 2016.
The last program for the 2015-6 academic year offered in Muscat and again at the Scientific College of Design is one of the Center’s exclusive high level programs aimed at members of governing bodies of both private and public universities and colleges. The program scheduled to take place on the 11th & 12th of May, 2016 under the theme “The Higher Education Leadership Imperative: The Role of Today’s Governing Board Members” will be delivered by Professor Mohamed Zairi, an international expert acknowledged today as a leading researcher in his field, with over 300 publications, including more than 40 books on quality and related topics. He is the recipient of many international awards and medals. He has worked very closely with hundreds of organizations covering a wide spectrum of government, academic and private sectors interests.
The program will cover a broad range of topics including: exploring different governance models and frameworks, investigating principles of good governance and the most common challenges and issues encountering good and participatory governance; considering the key functions of governing bodies amongst which are strategic planning, budget reviews and approval, institutional effectiveness, risk management, etc.
