AI agents are rapidly emerging as the next evolution of artificial intelligence, moving beyond static tools toward systems capable of reasoning, decision-making, and autonomous action. Their increasing adoption is driven by the need for more personalized learning, scalable support systems, and intelligent automation across teaching, advising, and institutional operations.
In higher education, this shift is enabling institutions to rethink how learning is delivered, how students are supported, and how academic and administrative processes are designed.
This online workshop aims to introduce participants to the concept of AI agents, how they function, and how they can be effectively and responsibly applied within higher education contexts. The session focuses on developing a clear conceptual understanding and the ability to design and evaluate AI agent applications, rather than technical programming.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
Explain the concept of AI agents and how they differ from traditional AI tools
Identify applications of AI agents across teaching, advising, and academic practice
Describe the core components and functioning of AI agent systems
Design a structured AI agent use case aligned with their context
Evaluate key ethical, governance, and implementation considerations
